Fall is a great time of year for produce, which is even more delectable when you pick it yourself! Whether you’re craving a farm fresh apple or looking to carve a jack-o’-lantern in the coming weeks, there are plenty of u-pick farms in southeast Michigan bursting with apples and pumpkins.

Wasem Fruit Farm of Milan offers u-pick apples, including Cortland and Empire varieties. Beginning in October, pick your own pumpkins! While not u-pick, you’ll find fresh, farm-grown plums and pears in the store, along with doughnuts and cider.

Wasem’s is open daily for the fall season through November.

Erwin Orchards in South Lyon offers u-pick apples now through the beginning of November. This week, pick Northern Spy, Macintosh, Jonagold, Ida Red and Mutsu varieties. If you’re there over the coming weekend, Red Delicious begins this Friday!

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

Keep this in mind: Happy Apple Hour, which takes place Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., when you’ll receive $3 off the price of a u-pick bushel. U-pick pumpkins are also available and cost $0.50/pound.

Westview Orchards of Washington has a bounty of u-pick apples to choose from, including Gala, Macintosh, Cortland, Empire, Fortune Spies and Jonagold varieties. When you set out with your group, keep in mind the orchard’s half-peck minimum per person.

While you’re there, don’t forget to peruse the u-pick pumpkins, too! Pick your favorite for $0.54/pound.

Obstbaum Orchards & Cider Mill, located in Northville, is only open on Saturdays and Sundays, so mark your calendar for a weekend u-pick adventure! You’ll find in-season apples, like Honey Crisp.

Tip: by keeping an eye on the orchard’s website before your visit, you just may come across a special offer to score a major discount during your trip.

Donahee Farms, found in Plymouth, is the place to be if you’re looking for pumpkins. U-pick cost $0.40/pound, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to dusk.

In addition to the u-pick pumpkin patch, other fall activities include a giant pumpkin moonwalk and more.
