We all have our go-to burger spots where we know exactly what to expect. Bun, burger, and the standard toppings that might include ketchup, lettuce, and tomato. It’s a classic for a reason. Of course there’s nothing wrong with a burger with the standard toppings, but what if you want to try something that’s a little bit more out of the box? The next time you’re craving a burger that’s unique, try one of these Metro Detroit burger joints serving up deliciously different burgers.

FRITA BATIDOS

66 West Columbia Street, Detroit

117 West Washington Street, Ann Arbor

Frita Batidos is Cuban inspired street foods that just so happens to serve up some of the best burgers in the state. “FRITA BATIDOS is inspired by Cuban culture and a fantasy revolving around two staples in the world of Cuban street food we opened originally in Ann, Arbor, and now Detroit, we are a Chef driven independent restaurant, working as a community and aspiring to create something special together – the FRITA – a burger traditionally made from spicy chorizo served with shoestring fries on top in a soft egg bun and BATIDOS – tropical milkshakes made with fresh fruit, crushed ice, and sweetened milk – with or without rum! Like burgers and shakes, Fritas and Batidos are a natural pairing and the whimsical menu is the result of dreaming about these two dishes for years!” says Hayle Flowers, Catering and Administrative Manager of Frita Batidos. There are so many ways you can choose to create your burger that you’ll have to come back again and again to try all of the options.

VINSETTA GARAGE

27799 Woodward Avenue, Berkley

Vinsetta Garage comes with a bit of a fun fact: it is the largest standing garage east of the Mississippi river. While it no longer services cars, it is one of the area’s go-to places for great food and fun atmosphere. The menu is built off of what Detroit area mechanics would have eaten back in the day with a modern twist. They have several different unique burgers on the menu from The Lamburger with tzatziki, red onion, feta, and fried house-pickled chili to The Shop Towel topped with Woodshop pulled pork and house-pickled chilis.

REDCOAT TAVERN

6745 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield Township

31542 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak

Redcoat Tavern is famously known in the area for their incredible burgers. Technically, they only have two different burgers on their menu: The Classic with tomato, shredded lettuce, Special Sauce, and a toasted sesame bun, or The Brasserie Burger with bacon, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, tomato, watercress, Dijon mustard-mayonnaise, and a toasted brioche bun. However, it’s the way you can customize your burger that makes it truly unique. They have more than 30 different toppings you can add to your burger including eight different cheeses, five different types of buns, and other unique toppings like burnt onions, guacamole, and a Detroit favorite, zip sauce.
