It’s essentially the summertime in southeast Michigan, and it’s no secret that staring outside and seeing sunshine and fun can be hard to take when you’re stuck at your desk working all day. For most of us working adults, vacations can be few and far between. Not to mention, trips can get quite pricey. While going to a tropical destination is always fun, there are some alternatives.

These alternatives, sometimes referred to as “staycations,” allow you to get away for just a day or two, and will cost you significantly less moola then a week-long trip out of state. Michigan offers some absolutely gorgeous scenery and fun activities on the west side of the state, and the Upper Peninsula, but metro Detroit is no slouch in those categories, either. Allow me to elaborate.

Bishop-Brighton Bed & Breakfast

If you’ve always wanted to try a bed and breakfast, or want to visit one again, consider this Wyandotte option. Located just 15 miles out of downtown Detroit, Bishop-Brighton is also located just one street away from the Detroit River and Bishop Park, and two blocks away from downtown Wyandotte. The house, originally bought in 1902, offers three guest rooms, a library and a main living room/dining room.

Beach House Day Spa

Another way to escape without going too far is to visit a day spa.  Birmingham’s Beach House Day Spa was voted as the Detroit A-List’s “Best Spa” in 2015. Services include several types of facials, nail treatments, makeup, airbrush tanning and more. Men, don’t feel left out, Beach House also offers services for men such as the Gentlemen’s Facial, Gentlemen’s Manicure and more. There are also several massages available, including the Couples Massage.

The Silverado is the official sponsor of your next home improvement project.

Courtyard Detroit Downtown

While it may seem somewhat out of the ordinary to stay at a hotel in the area you already live in the Courtyard Detroit, located downtown on Jefferson Avenue, offers all kinds of fun packages. Baseball fans may want to take advantage of the Grand Slam Package, which includes $20 in Fun Money valid In Comerica Park. Couples may want to look into the Experience Romance Package. Other options are the Experience Motor City Museum Package and The Weekender Packager.

As you can see, you don’t have to go far for it to feel like a mini-vacation. What is your best idea for a staycation in Metro Detroit? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
