Who needs a dozen roses, a box of chocolates (that you’ll eat a few of and then throw out) and a stuffed teddy bear from the ‘love of your life’ (or for the moment anyway)? Let’s switch it up and do things differently with a Galentine’s Day celebration! “What’s Galentine’s Day?” I knew you would ask that. Galentine’s Day is still a day of love but with your Gal Pals! It’s not all the mushy stuff with flowers and stuffed animals, it’s more; slasher movies, good food, drinks and pretty much doing what you want to do outside of the traditional Valentines Day rigmarole. Now, there is nothing wrong with Valentine’s Day traditions, but why not add some shimmer? What better way to spend the day than with your best girlfriends. Gotta have Chocolate- What would February 14th be without it? But not just any chocolat. Freshly made chocolate cake from Good Cakes and Bakes. Plus, this bakey is run by women! Not feeling the chocolate cake? That’s ok, they make chocolate brownies that are to die for. Vegan? They’ve got you covered with delicious vegan options too!
Let’s Get Scary- What is Galentine’s day without a good slasher or scary movie? Celebrate the day of love with blood, gore and maybe some guts. Try watching “Don’t Breathe”, a film about three teenagers that try to rob a blind man, that is actually filmed in Detroit. A classic local recommendation would be Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. A good place to eat would be Small Plates. You and you lady friends can order 10 different things and try each other’s food. Or put on some heels on and a cute dress, make reservations at The Whitney or sit pretty at the Ghost Bar Lounge. Libations Lift Spirits- There is no argument that a good spirit will have you on cloud nine. Why not enjoy your favorite drink at PJ’s Lager House. Plus you’ll also get to watch a movie as film aficionado-in-residence Katelyn will be showing her favorite bad love movies.
