The much anticipated opening of the first Wahlburgers in Detroit is just around the corner. The popular burger chain is scheduled to hold its grand opening at its Greektown location on July 23, with co-owner and Transformers star Mark Wahlberg making an appearance.
Wahlburgers is known for their, you guessed it, burgers, but they also feature salads, fries, and other sides. As seen on the reality show, appropriately titled Wahlburgers, the restaurants themselves feature a casual atmosphere with memorabilia and photos of the three brothers’ lives from Boston.
It’s very exciting, but if you do not follow the show or any of the Wahlberg brothers’ careers, you might be wondering what all the hoopla is about. With that in mind, here are four things you need to know about a Wahlburgers restaurant opening in Detroit.
Location, location, location
The first Detroit Wahlburgers will be in the heart of Greektown on Monroe Street. The restaurant will be located next to the Red Smoke Barbecue and will be two stories with over 4,200 total square feet.
Providing a lot of jobs and excitement
The restaurant held a job fair on July 6 and 7 in preparation for its grand opening at the end of the month. The restaurant is looking to fill 150 job positions spanning from cooks, to bartenders or servers, to utility workers.
Transformers 5 is currently shooting in Detroit
The Transformers series has been known for filming in the metro Detroit area, and the newest film is no exception. With Mark Wahlberg headlining Transformers 5, the star is making it known that he will be hanging out at the new Wahlburgers location in Detroit. There was even rumors of him popping up during interviews at the job fair, but he is confirmed to be making an appearance at the grand opening.
Plans for more restaurants
There are seven Walhburgers currently in the United States, but with the success of the show and the restaurants, there are plans to expand to a 118 restaurants across the country. These plans include six more restaurants in the Southeast Michigan area.
