Walk for These Great Causes

There are many reasons to participate in a fun run or 5K: the thrill of competition, attempting to best your personal record, and with some events, participating for a good cause. Metro Detroiters love to give back, that’s why there are so many upcoming fun runs in the summer months. To help you plan out your 5K’s and registering before it’s too late, here are five upcoming walks, runs, and 5Ks that will help out some truly great causes.

I Support the K9s Color Run 5K (6/2)

The Professional Law Enforcement Association Foundation (PLEA) will host their fifth I Support the K9s Color Run 5K on Saturday, June 2 at Stony Creek Metropark. The goal for the fundraiser is to raise enough money to supply local police departments with bulletproof vests and other needed equipment for their K9 officers. Registration will include a T-shirt, medal, and a color powder pack for you to use at the race.

March for Marrow 5K Walk/Fun Run (6/3)

The third annual March for Marrow 5K Walk/Fun Run will return to Lake Orion on Sunday, June 3. The event aims to raise funds to find a cure for more marrow failure and support patients who live with the disease. The day will include a silent auction, bone marrow drive, face painting, raffles, lunch, and more.

Stampede Scleroderma (6/3)

The Detroit Zoo will host the 2018 Stampede Scleroderma on Sunday, June 3. The 39th annual event welcomes scleroderma patients, supporters, and friends for an event designed to help raise awareness of the disease. You and your family will also be able to enjoy a day at the zoo after the conclusion of the race!

Walk to End Alzheimer’s (8/25)

The Alzheimer’s Association and The Detroit Zoo will host the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, August 25. All funds raised will go towards care and support of those with Alzheimer’s and research to help end the disease. Head for the Cure (9/15)

The Head for the Cure 5K run and walk will come to the Rivard Plaza on Saturday, September 15. The run is sponsored by the Head for the Cure Foundation, which is dedicated to raising awareness and funding research against brain cancer. Early registration will run through Friday, July 31, while general registration will end Wednesday, September 12.
