Any Michigander knows that the winter months can be long and freezing. While a cup of hot cocoa can certainly do the trick most of the time, some of us might need something a little stronger. So whether you’re in the mood for warm cocktails, specialty cocktails with a winter twist, or some holiday specials, Metro Detroit’s cocktail scene has you covered.
Detroit City Distillery has been a go-to place for unique and great tasting whiskey, gin, and vodka. Featuring locally sourced ingredients, the tasting room will feature a mint hot chocolate made with the distillery’s own bourbon and topped with whipped cream and mint chocolate chips. It’s as good as any hot chocolate in Metro Detroit but features an extra kick to help you through the holidays.
The Sugar House in Detroit is famous for their incredible craft cocktails, including some eye-opening seasonal menus. Their Cleaner & Dyer’s Blazer features a rye, apple brandy with blackstrap rum, cinnamon, angostura bitters and maraschino liqueur. It’s a hot drink that is sure to spice up your holiday season.
The Painted Lady in Hamtramck has been serving some of the most unique cocktails in Metro Detroit since it opened its doors in 2004. They feature a hot toddy drink that is a combination of hot whiskey, water, lemon, honey, and your choice of 90 different whiskeys. There are always events happening at The Painted Lady, so be sure to follow their Facebook page for all of their entertaining events.
Pairing an excellent smokehouse menu with a wide-ranging drink menu, C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse in Walled Lake is always a great spot for tasty BBQ and refreshing drinks. Their Breakfast Manhattan is served with bacon-infused Bulleit Bourbon, smoked maple syrup, bitters and garnished with a slice of cooked bacon. If that doesn’t give you the boost you need in the winter, we’re not sure what will.
