If your idea of a good time is playing a role-playing game (RPG), strategy game or other games with a group of fellow gamers, then WinterCon 2015 just may be for you.

The event takes place on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Oakland University, in the first floor of the Oakland Center (near the north entrance). Doors open at 8 a.m. and the event continues throughout the entire day until 11 p.m. Admission for the event costs $12 for adults and $9 for youths accompanied by a paid adult. There are no separate fees for games or events, so one price gets you all-day access to everything offered.

WinterCon is put on by the Metro Detroit Gamers. The MDG has been around since 1972 and has hosted a series of gaming events since then. The group has a vast array of game players and welcomes players of all types of game: war games, board games, card games, RPGs and much more.

The gathering of game players from all walks of life will include family and board games, miniature games (historical, fantasy, etc.), railroad games, RPGs and more. In addition to all of the fun to be had playing games, there will also be door prizes and other prize opportunities throughout the event. Each participant gets drawing tickets, and winners of games or events will receive additional tickets.

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

There will also be miniature game demos at the event. One of the demos includes the game MERCS, which is a “skirmish game of miniature combat.” It will be demonstrated by the representatives from MegaCon Games. Another demo, the X-Wing Demo Derby, takes place from 8 p.m. until close.

If there is still time left, you can sign up to be a “Game Master.” Game Masters are responsible for managing and setting up the games and get to attend the event for free. For more information on the necessary steps to sign up, visit the Facebook page for a full description. Your information can be emailed to mdggamingevents@gmail.com.

Whether you want to try gaming out, you do it for a hobby or it is your passion, WinterCon 2015 is the place to go. Watch out for other gaming events throughout southeast Michigan as well. Whatever your activity of choice is, have fun!
