We continue our fitness-based articles this week with yoga studios. Yoga is an interesting form of exercise, and there are many health benefits to practicing it. Obviously, it improves your strength, posture and flexibility, but it is also said to boost your blood flow, build your immunity and lower your blood pressure. There are several places in the southeast Michigan area that offer classes and instruction on yoga.
Downtown Ferndale’s Shine On Yoga studio focuses on spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional growth. The studio’s core values portray its belief in unity and togetherness. Shine On offers a plethora of classes, including Energetic Flow, Restore and Relax and Yin yoga. Classes are offered in the mornings and evenings each day of the week. The schedule is available online.
Empower Yoga, located in Northville, offers several classes as well. Each class is multi-level, which means all skill levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced – can all participate and go at their own pace. Slow Burn, Ashtanga Yoga, Hot Vinyasa and other instructor-lead courses are offered here. Several classes are available each day and packages or memberships are available for purchase.
Located in Downtown Utica, The Yoga Studio has classes as well as workshops. The current schedule shows classes offered two to three times a week. Classes include Intro to Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Core Fusion, Basic Hatha Yoga and more. Workshops include Restorative Yoga, Mommy and Me Yoga and Prenatal Yoga. There are currently New Year specials running through Sunday, Jan. 10!

Be Nice Yoga is a “boutique” yoga studio located in Midtown. According to its website, it is Detroit’s original yoga studio. Classes and workshops are both offered here as well. In addition, Be Nice also has teacher training, corporate yoga events, private instruction and more. Vinyasa (various levels), Hatha Flow, Abhyasa and other classes are available to choose from.
