Run for a cause!

Although the weather is cooling off, there’s still plenty of time for outdoor activities here in the D. Grabbing a group of friends and signing up for a 5K race is the perfect way to spend part of a day. Not only will it give you something to look forward to, but many of these Metro Detroit races are organized to help support a fund or organization. And we all know there’s nothing better than giving back to our communities and wonderful causes in our area. Here’s a list of upcoming fall 5Ks in and around Detroit to keep you motivated and to help others…

Heroes on Hines

September 24

In honor of the fallen first responders, Heroes on Hines is a race in support of maintaining the First Responders Memorial located at the corner of Hines Drive and Haggerty Road in Plymouth Township.

Zaman Run Walk Picnic

September 24 

Zaman helps women and children living in poverty in Southeast Michigan and their 13th annual Run Walk Picnic is a way to bring awareness and support to their programs. There are plenty of activities in addition to the 5K that are family-friendly. 

POTS Walk & 5k

October 2

POTS stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and is largely a mystery in the medical community. This annual walk and 5k has both an in-person and virtual option. All funds raised during the POTS walk will support Dysautonomia International’s POTS Research Fund.

Trick or Feet Kidney Run 

October 3

Each year, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan hosts their Trick or Feet! 5K/10K Kidney Run, Walk, and Roll. Funds raised during the event will go to support the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s programs and services while raising awareness about kidney disease prevention and treatment.

Forever Home Run 

October 8

The Forever Home Run supports foster children waiting for their forever families. Since 2015, this partnership has helped raise funds to benefit both children in foster care as well as adoptive families. In addition to the 5K, the Children’s 1k dash is perfect for younger runners. 

Le Run for Le Rouge 

October 9

If you like supporting youth sports, this is the race for you. All proceeds from the Le Run for Le Rouge fundraiser go directly to supporting Detroit City Football Club youth programs. This ensures they can continue to provide low to no-cost soccer development and training to the youth of the city. 

Strides for SOS 

October 9
Schools Offer Support (SOS) that serves members of the Birmingham Public Schools community with things like outreach efforts, volunteering, and financial support. This fundraiser allows programs like Thanksgiving meals and senior citizen leaf raking to be possible.
