Local animal shelters are a safe haven for animals in need of food, shelter, and love in a time of need. Many shelters are still rescuing stray dogs during this time, which means they still need help when it comes to finding these dogs a home. Here are some local animal shelters that are in dire need of fostering and can help you have a furry friend while you practice social distancing.

Detroit Dog Rescue

Detroit Dog Rescue aims to help the homeless and stray dogs of Detroit find a loving home, and right now the shelter needs your help. The non-profit, no-kill shelter is still accepting applications for fostering and adopting dogs. I Heart Dogs had to cancel upcoming fundraising events, which they rely on to stay operational, so you can also help by donating on their website.

Detroit Animal Care and Control

Detroit Animal Care and Control always helps stray Detroit dogs find loving homes, and that is especially true in these difficult times. Many dogs still need a home and the center is still open to those who would like to help foster or adopt a dog. The Detroit Animal Care and Control center is part of the City of Detroit’s Health Department and will provide updates on any policy changes on their website or Facebook page
