Sometimes when the stressors of the world hit, the only thing left to do is grab a bottle of nail polish and take some “me” time, am I right? However, when that daily stress becomes simply insurmountable, a mere self-service mani will no longer suffice. Occasionally, you just need someone else to attack your tense shoulders or smear on a face mask to fully de-stress.
Ladies (and gents!), if you’re looking to be pampered for a day, take a look at the following Metro Detroit spas for the best services the area has to offer:
Pure SKN Organic Spa, 2505 Hilton Rd., Ferndale, is both an organic and gluten free spa that offers tons of unique treatments. Custom organic facials ($75 for 60 minutes or $125 for 90 minutes) are catered to your skin type and include everything from exfoliation to a massage. Some of the newest weight-loss centered spa services are available here, including a Detoxification & Weight Loss Massage ($80 for 60 minutes) and Detoxifying & Weight Loss Body Wrap ($70 for 60 minutes). If you have ultra sensitive skin, it’s a good place to go for makeup application, since the airbrush foundation they use is water based.
MassageLuXe, 43296 W. 11 Mile Rd., Novi, is right across from Twelve Oaks, so you can dedicate an entire afternoon to relaxation, complete with shopping and a shoulder massage. Standard massages include Swedish, Deep Tissue and Prenatal; specialty massages include Hot Stone, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Sports, Trigger Point and Bio-Mat. They also have a HydroLux massage bed, which allows toasty water jets to get all the knots out of your back. Trust me, it’s delightful.
Health Spa of Plymouth, 1075 W. Ann Arbor Rd., Plymouth, offers specialty massages I’ve never even heard of, like Rain Drop Therapy, for instance. If, like me, your allergies are a problem and you’re constantly dealing with headaches, they’ve got Sinus/Headache Relief Therapy, which is guaranteed to “alleviate discomfort from colds, allergies and headaches” in 30 minutes. Sign me up, please! Their facials sound good enough to eat (Lemon Zest Facial, Coconut/Papaya Facial), and the Health Spa offers a 30-minute teeth-whitening service for $69, which is guaranteed to make your chompers gleam in the sunlight.
Indigo Salon & Day Spa, 50545 Cherry Hill Rd., Canton, offers several unique anti-aging treatments, including a Signature Facelift (non-invasive, don’t worry), which uses a Vitamin C treatment to tighten the skin. If you’re tired of purchasing mascara and having it glued to your lashes at the end of every day, the Eyelash Enhancement services might be for you ($35 for full lash application). Therapeutic body treatments include an Eastern Mud Treatment, which will “cocoon” you in steam while your skin absorbs said mud. Yum.
