DIY Street Fair Artist Confidential: Geoff Pickering

Goeff Pickering isn’t exactly sure when he began drawing and painting his one of a kind pieces. There is something to be said about an artist that can’t recall when they started their craft. Probably because true artistic nature is instilled in a person at an age that most of us have very vague memories.

“I’ve been drawing as long as I can remember,” said Pickering.

A large part of Pickering’s passion can be related directly back to his roots. As a member of an artistic family, he has been painting and drawing all of his life. He describes his art as fun and sometimes silly, and at times even somewhat dark. One thing that holds true for each piece, he does them spur of the moment with very little thought given.

“Because it is spur of the moment, every painting is fairly unique. Sometimes I will do two or three in a series, but everyone is usually very different,” Pickering commented.

Most of the art that he creates is done on canvas or board with the use of acrylic paint. To switch things up from time to time he will incorporate pen and ink as well.

Currently, Pickering’s artwork can be purchased on his Etsy site. Most of his pieces range in price from $10 to $100.

“I try to keep the prices down. It’s really meant for people to enjoy, and not so much about the money with me,” said Pickering.

He will also be showcasing his work at the DIY Street Fair in Ferndale, Michigan happening this weekend, September 14, 15 and 16. This will be Pickering’s first time showcasing his pieces since college and he hopes to start doing so more often.

“”This is something that I do because I love it, and I hope that other people will be able to enjoy it as well,” Pickering concluded.
