Our military veterans have served heroically throughout the world, facing unimaginable challenges to protect our freedoms. However, for too many, the greatest challenges present themselves upon returning home.

The physical and emotional impacts of military service extend far beyond the line of duty. Many veterans need support to adjust back to civilian life and move forward with a newfound purpose.

That’s where the Michigan Warriors come in.

Now in its 10th year, the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has provided support to disabled vets through a team-centric mentality, military camaraderie, and most of all, a love for the game of hockey.

In a thrilling spectacle of skill, camaraderie, and heart, the Michigan Warriors Hockey Team is set to face off against the illustrious Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association (DRWAA) in a not-to-be-missed event on March 9th at the Big Boy Arena. This extraordinary game isn’t just about hockey; it’s a powerful demonstration of community, resilience, and the unifying love for the sport while supporting a cause that goes far beyond the rink. “Veterans come back from serving and sometimes there’s not that job waiting,” explained MDCD President, John Fox. “Sometimes there’s not a family waiting. Why not spend some extra time and effort giving back to the people who have given us an opportunity to live with the freedoms that we have?”

The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program, comprised entirely of veterans, has been an inspirational force, offering a sense of belonging, rehabilitation, and joy through the sport of hockey. They accept all levels of players including beginners and veterans who have never played hockey before. It’s all about building a community to help each other heal and grow.

On the other side, the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association Team brings together some of the most beloved and skilled players who have donned the iconic jersey, showcasing their timeless talent and continued commitment to giving back to the community. George Bowman of the DRWAA says the team is looking forward to playing the Michigan Warriors. “We are grateful to the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers for making the game possible in the first place. We can’t wait to play a great game of hockey to honor our local heroes.”

50% of the ticket proceeds from this special event will go to the Michigan Warriors Program, making each ticket sold, and every cheer from the stands, part of a larger effort to give back to those who have given so much, and the support is much appreciated. The Michigan Warriors tell us, “This is one of the most important events we do as an organization. Besides having the opportunity to skate alongside some of our childhood idols, we get the opportunity to play in front of our family, friends, and community. It allows us to show Metro Detroit who we are and what we are all about.”

Tickets are $18 and kids 3 and under receive free admission. Doors open at 1 p.m. on the 9th and the puck drops at 2 p.m. Some additional activities at the arena will include an autograph session, a 50/50 raffle, and chuck-a-puck, and all proceeds from these will go to the Michigan Warriors. There is also a Motor City Rockers hockey game that evening that this ticket also gets you into, giving you two games for the price of one.

As the final buzzer sounds, regardless of the score, the real victory will be the support generated for veterans and the unforgettable experience of seeing heroes on and off the ice come together for a common goal.

The upcoming game between the Michigan Warriors and the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association is more than just a match; it’s a powerful narrative of courage, community, and hockey. It’s an invitation to be part of something bigger, to support a noble cause while enjoying the game that brings us all together. Let’s fill the stands, cheer on these remarkable teams, and make a difference, one goal at a time.
