We’re a couple weeks into the new year and hopefully all of your New Year’s resolutions are going strong. While many of us are trying to stay in shape and eat better in the new year, maybe one of your resolutions was to learn something new or take some of your skills to the next level. Finding a new passion or deepening your love for one can be a deeply rewarding experience, and there are many classes throughout Metro Detroit that can help with just that. So whether you’re looking to learn to paint, improve your writing, or hone in your cooking skills, check out these classes in the D.

Write: The Detroit Writing Room

Writing can be hard (trust me), but one of the most important aspects of writing is finding the right environment. The Detroit Writing Room provides that with a space that offers a comfortable and supportive space for aspiring writers. You can sign up with an experienced writing coach that will give you feedback on everything from your next novel or an important business plan. Also be sure to check out their events calendar to see all of the great classes they have coming up.

Paint: Creative Arts Studios

There are times where we all want to get in touch with our inner artist, and Creative Arts Studio in Royal Oak helps Metro Detroiters of all ages accomplish just that. Whether it’s their introduction to glass fusing class, wheel throwing, or even Mommy and Me general classes on Saturday mornings, they have unique classes for everyone. You can also host kid parties or adult gatherings in the studio for a fun, creative night.

Dance: Exhibit 8 Studios

Coding can be a helpful skill in today’s job market. Grand Circus offers introductory courses that can help you understand coding, along with 12 or 26 week coding bootcamp for more a more in-depth understanding of coding. Upcoming classes include an introduction to front-end development on Saturday, January 25 and a free intro to coding workshop on Tuesday, January 28.

Cook: Mirepoix Cooking School

A lot of us cook nearly every day, but maybe you’re looking for a little extra boost to take your culinary skills over the top. That’s where Royal Oak’s Mirepoix Cooking School comes in. The Holiday Market cooking school offers all sorts of classes ranging from classic Italian cooking, to weekend brunch, to even sharpening (pun intended) those knife skills. Be sure to sign up for these classes in advance as they tend to fill up quickly!
