Veterans Day is an opportunity for all of us to take the time to remember all of those who have served. The day allows us to reflect and pay tribute to those who protect us, and while this should be a more common occurrence, it’s important to honor that sacrifice. Metro Detroit knows that and has numerous events throughout the Veterans Day weekend that supports veterans with parades, events, and shows.
Stahls Power Play for Heroes (11/9)
The Stahls Automotive Foundation will host its annual Power Play for Heroes on Saturday, November 9. Four time Stanley Cup Champion Darren McCarty will be on-hand for the game between Team Stahls and the Detroit Red Wings Alumni. Proceeds will benefit the Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. and tickets will be $7 per person.
Veteran’s Cornhole Tournament (11/9)
The Downey Brewing Company will play host to the Veterans Day Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, November 9. The double-elimination tournament will kick-off at 5 p.m. with the winner going home with a custom made kegerator. Proceeds will be donated to Twenty-Two Until None, a non-profit who raises awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic. Veterans Day Vendor and Craft Show (11/9) The third annual Veterans Day Vendor and Craft Show at the VFW 7573 Banquet Hall in New Baltimore will feature over 25 vendors and crafters. The free show begins at 10 a.m. and will benefit both the Lempke-Blackwell VFW 7537 and local animal rescues. If you donate to the local animal rescues, you can enter to win $25 PetSmart gift card. Detroit Veterans Day Parade (11/10) The Metropolitan Detroit Veterans Coalition will hold its 14th annual Detroit Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 10 beginning at 11 a.m. The parade will start at Dean Savage Memorial Park and make its way west on Trumbell Ave. and head north on Michigan Ave. The parade will be saluting the American Legion on their 100th birthday and the Marines on their 244th birthday. The Village Theater’s Salute to Service (11/11) Canton will once again honor service men and women with their annual Salute to Service at The Village Theater on Monday, November 11 at 7 p.m. The stage presentation will include President of the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America Mr. Michael Harris, the Workmen Elementary Choir, the Harmony Town Chorus, and the Rosie the Riveter Troupe. Donations such as sweat pants, hoodies, body wash, and snack packs will be accepted and donated to the VA Ann Arbor Health System.
