Spend Your Summer on the Water at These Fun Lake Events

There’s a reason Michigan isn’t called the “Okay Lake State,” and that’s because our lakes are indeed great. Whether it’s a boat ride around the lake or a beach day with the family, taking advantage of our beautiful lakes during the summer is a must for every Metro Detroiter. So whether you’re looking for some exciting races, festivals, or fun parties this summer, check out these great lake events in the D.

Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival (6/19-6/23)

The New Baltimore annual festival returns for its 55th year of community fun on the lake as you and your family can enjoy scavenger hunts, corn hole, parades, and fireworks over the lake throughout the weekend. This four-day event will also feature the 12th annual cardboard boat race on Saturday, June 23. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. and costs $10 per boat. Be sure to be there early to reserve your spot!

Walled Lake Beach Party and Fireworks (6/22)

From soccer practice to grocery runs, the Chevy Trailblazer is designed to make your everyday outings a breeze.

Walled Lake Beach always knows how to throw a party, and their fireworks show on Saturday, June 22 is no exception. The eighth annual event will feature fireworks shot from the middle of Walled Lake which will be perfectly visible from Walled Lake Beach. Music, games, food and more will take place throughout the day and space is limited, so be sure to get there early!

Roar on the River (7/19-7/21)

Roar on the River returns to Elizabeth Park in Trenton for three days of exciting boat races, great food, and live music. Friday night gets things started with “A Taste of the Races” which will feature a delectable taste fest featuring a large selection of the region’s best restaurants. The rest of the weekend features all of the exciting races, which you can find more information on, in the schedule of events.

Dragon on the Lake (8/23-8/26)

Lake Orion’s annual end of summer celebration, Dragon on the Lake, features wine tasting, music, a 5K run, and of course, dragon boat racing. Be sure to follow the event’s Facebook page for more updates as it gets closer to the event.

Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Hydrofest (8/24-8/25)

The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Hydrofest returns for two days of races featuring the world’s fastest automotive powered hydroplanes starting on Saturday, August 24. The fast-paced action will feature 40 rooster-tailing boat racing that will reach speeds over 150 mph. The event will also feature a hot rod show before the races, live music and more family-friendly entertainment throughout the weekend.
