With frosty mornings a thing of the past, now’s the time to get your flowerbeds prepped for spring! Before you grab your gardening tools and get to digging, you’re probably wondering where you can purchase robust Rhododendrons and bright bulbs, am I right? Instead of heading to a hardware store, I suggest supporting the local economy and purchasing your spring gardening needs from a local nursery or greenhouse such as:

Lucas Nursery, 10190 W. Ann Arbor Rd., Plymouth, is a family run business, and has been around for nearly 50 years. While the nursery is packed full of pretty flowers, that’s not all they offer. Full-service landscaping services are available, including consultations, design and installation. Or, if you’re more of the DIY type, you can purchase topsoil, mulch and more for landscaping on your own.

English Gardens is also a Michigan family operation, and has several Metro Detroit locations, including Royal Oak, Ann Arbor and Dearborn Heights. The store’s garden center has everything you need and more, including pottery, planters, soils, mulches and bird feeders. In terms of outdoor living, you have limitless deck furniture and barbecue grill options at your disposal.

Farmer John’s Greenhouse, 26950 Haggerty Rd., Farmington Hills, has a vast selection of annuals, perennials, houseplants and potted plants to pick from. If you’ve got a pool out near the garden, you can also pick up pool and spa supplies while you’re at Farmer John’s. Additionally, if you’d rather rent a plant for when the in-laws are in town instead of purchasing one, you can do so here!

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

Block’s Stand & Greenhouse, 29160 Eureka Rd., Romulus, is known for selling great products at reasonable prices. It’s a great place for one stop shopping if you’re looking for flowers, plants and fresh produce. It’s also got several acres of greenhouse, so make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to browse.

Plymouth Nursery, 9900 Plymouth-Ann Arbor Rd., Plymouth, offers numerous services. The 16-acre Garden Center and landscaping supplies and services will help you build your outdoor living space. The greenhouse and nursery hold rows upon rows of flowers, groundcovers, herbs and plants.

Eckert Greenhouse & Perennials, 34075 Ryan Rd., Sterling Heights, is committed to selling plants while going green and reducing their carbon footprint. The greenhouse claims to have planted 90 percent of its products in recyclable biodegradable containers. If you too are environmentally conscience, Eckert’s is your perfect match. They have over 1,000 annuals to choose from, in addition to perennials and herbs.

Ray Wiegand’s Nursery, 47747 Romeo Plank Rd., Macomb, offers a free Loyalty Club Program, which will get you discounts on select items, and allow you to earn reward points with each purchase. In addition to plants, shrubs and trees, Wiegand’s offers everything a bird enthusiast could possibly desire, including birdhouses and seed.
