When it comes to dog ownership, everyone wants what’s best for their furry best friend. Part of having a happy and healthy dog is allowing them the opportunity to socialize with other dogs in a safe environment. It’s not always easy to find places to do this, especially during the long Michigan winters.
Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to get outside and explore new places with your dog. As dog owners we know what’s important: clean spaces, waste stations, and plenty of water to keep everyone hydrated. Instead of another trip to a lackluster dog park with a patch of grass and a fenced area, give these Metro Detroit dog parks a try.
This incredible dog park has two divided areas for dogs depending on their size: up to 30 pounds and over 30 pounds. Each area has benches, dog waste bags and disposal stations, water access, and unique dog agility equipment. This park is only available to those who have a permit, which can be purchased at the city office.
Located in Woodhaven, WOOFhaven Dog Park is a two-acre oasis for dogs to run freely off-leash. They have two separate sections for large and small dogs so playtime can be manageable. Picnic tables, waste disposal centers, and water areas are available. During the summer months, small pools are set up for the dogs to cool off and splash with their friends. Memberships are available at the City Clerk’s office.

When you find yourself downtown, be sure to stop by the Grand Circus Dog Park to let your pup run around and meet new friends. While it might just seem like a patch of grass in the city, this dog park offers fun events throughout the year like doggie prom and a singles mingle for dog parents looking for a human companion. As a bonus, this park is completely free!
