The Halloween season is in in full swing in Metro Detroit! From scary movies to watch, to haunted houses (and haunted corn mazes) to brave through, there are plenty of ways to get in the Halloween spirit. While many of those activities are plenty spooky, an activity that doesn’t require you covering your eyes every two seconds is pumpkin picking. Taking the family out to a farm or orchard with a U-Pick pumpkin patch is a perfect way to spend an October afternoon. Here are five local farms and orchards to check out this fall!
Located in beautiful Ottawa Lake, Bennett’s Orchard has been a staple in the Metro Detroit community for over 50 years. You can find plenty of farm fresh eggs, apples, hard cider, and of course, pumpkins. The orchard hauls in pumpkins from their field every morning for you to pick, so be sure to get there early to get the perfect pumpkin for you and your family!
With 20 acres of pumpkins, Debuck’s Pumpkin patch has every type of pumpkin imaginable. You can either venture out into the patch to find the perfect pumpkin or simply choose your favorite from their pre-picked selection next to the pumpkin house. Don’t forget to try their giant 15 acre corn maze which has different levels of difficulty for different maze-goers.
One of the most popular farms in southeast Michigan, Three Cedars Farm in Northville has everything your family needs to enjoy an autumn afternoon. You can enjoy a scenic hay ride out to their pumpkin patch and choose from any one of their varying sized pumpkins. Three Cedars Farm is also known for their delicious cider, so don’t forget to grab a gallon before you head out!
