Finding the perfect gift during the holiday season can be stressful, but if you’ve been following along with “In the D” this month, we’re providing you with great locally made gift options for your loved ones.

Do you have a friend who is always running late? A dad who dresses sharply and needs the perfect accessory to complete his outfit? A watch would make a perfect gift! Detroit is home to several watch companies, where you’ll find stunning gift items for your beloved friends and family, no shopping mall or gift cards required.

Shinola

Perhaps Detroit’s most well known watchmaker, Shinola got its start in 2011 and crafts not only watches, but bicycles, leather goods and journals, too. Men’s and women’s watches include the Muhammad Ali Center Limited Edition Watch and The Birdy Double Wrap Leather Strap Watch.

Check out the holiday gift guide, where you’ll find bestsellers like The Brakeman, along with a watch buying guide if you’re not quite sure where to start. Standard shipping is free on all watch orders, with free returns.

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

Detroit Watch Company

Producing classic designs since 2013, the Detroit Watch Company sends sketches and technical drawings to global resources in Germany, Hong Kong and Switzerland for manufacturing, but final assembly of automatic movements and all components are done right here in Detroit.

Current accessories available for purchase include the L’Horloge design, with dark grey dial and four band color choices, and Pride of Detroit Aviator Series, with a black or tan band.

Keep the upcoming 313 series (which will be introduced in 2016) in mind for additional gift occasions next year!

Canvas Watch Company

With a limited run of 250 watches, each design is a one-of-a-kind piece that not everyone will be wearing this season (or next). Watch designs are submitted, liked and backed by the general public, and once a design is chosen, the fine folks at Canvas begin manufacturing and assembling, all of which takes place in the United States.

Check out the store for available products, or visit the community page to download a watch template and submit a design of your own for consideration.

This holiday season, give the gift of time. Or at the very least, a nice, new wristwatch!
