When people picture the Huron-Clinton Metroparks, there is likely a memory of a warm summer day sitting on a beach or having a picnic, and rightfully so. However, these parks also offer a lot to do during the winter months. The beautiful scenery at some of these parks allows for a Winter Wonderland type setting.

Lake St. Clair Metropark will be the belle of the ball, so to speak, for our latest edition of Metropark features. This Harrison Township park offers a wide variety of winter activities for the current cold and possibly snowy months. There is a daily fee of $10 per vehicle to enter the park, or a $35 fee for an annual vehicle permit.

Although it is not yet open at press time, an outdoor ice hockey rink is available on the park’s west playfield. There is also a separate family rink, also located in the west playfield, that is designated for ice skating. A comfort station, a warming room and picnic tables for resting are available close to the rinks. Once open, the hours for both rinks are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

What fun would winter sports be without cross-country skiing? Luckily, it is yet another option at Lake St. Clair Metropark. More than two miles worth of marked cross country ski trails and beautiful scenes await you at the Metropark. The terrain is relatively flat, and it accommodates both beginner and intermediate skill levels.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

Perhaps one of winter’s most fun excursions is sledding! An outdoor family sledding hill is also located in the west playfield. Weather permitting, sledding is permitted from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lastly, ice fishing is available on Lake St. Clair. The area is known as a good site for panfish and yellow perch. There are also a plethora of bait and tackle shops located near the park’s entrance.

As you can tell, there are several winter-based activities at Lake St .Clair Metropark. It may be cold outside, but that does not necessarily mean the outdoors are off limits. If you are looking for a winter adventure, look no further than this park!
