Even though the concerts never really stop in Metro Detroit, there is something special about a spring or summer concert. The warm air, the grass beneath your feet, and the overall vibe are part of what makes the spring and summer months in Southeast Michigan great. We are almost there, and many venues are gearing up for another great season of fantastic music under the Michigan sky.
Here are our favorite outdoor venues and some of the noteworthy concerts they have coming up.
Renamed after the late Queen of Soul, the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre is ready to bring you a summer of great music along the Detroit River. Their concerts cross numerous genres including R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and pop. Here’s a sample of what they have coming up:

- Wednesday, June 5: The Aretha Jazz Series begins

Michigan Lottery Freedom Hill Amphitheatre
You might not think Sterling Heights as a go-to place for hot concerts, but that’s certainly the case with the Michigan Lottery Freedom Hill Amphitheatre. The music starts at the end of May and here’s a taste of what they have coming up:
- Friday, May 31: Wu-Tang Clan
- Tuesday, June 11: Coheed and Cambria
- Friday, June 28: Third Eye Blind
- Sunday, June 30: Steve Miller Band
- Friday, August 16: Papa Roach
Meadow Brook Amphitheatre at Oakland University might not be one of the largest venues around, but they know how to host some of the hottest up-and-coming and indie artists. Blackbear and Kyle hit the stage later this week in what is the first of many shows for the venue coming up this spring and summer:

Arguably the biggest outdoor venue in the area, DTE Energy Music Theatre is a must visit every spring and summer for any music lover. Their lineup is impressive every year, and this year is no different:
