Summer Festivals

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and for many Metro Detroiters, that means festival season begins. There are numerous community and city-wide festivals that are fun for the whole family, and this summer seems to be extra packed with them. Here are five upcoming festivals that are unique and show what makes Metro Detroit great.

Ann Arbor African American Downtown Festival (6/1)

Hosted by the Ann Arbor Cultural and Community Events Coalition, the Ann Arbor African American Downtown Festival will take place on Saturday, June 1. The festival is a celebration of the contributions black business leaders have made in the community and takes place in Ann Arbor’s Historic Black Business District. The family-friendly event will feature live music, vendors, and great BBQ.

The Eastern Market event features the area’s best chefs battling it out for the Best Burger in the D. You can watch the chefs create their burgers from scratch while also enjoying many of the event’s creations.

Farmington Founders Festival (7/18-7/21)

Moving to Shiawassee Park this year, the Farmington Founders Festival returns for some midsummer fun beginning on Thursday, July 18. This year’s festival will feature a vintage market, family activities, concerts, and the return of the Farmington Fido Festival. You can also sign-up for the festival’s 5K Color Run taking place on Saturday, July 20.

SterlingFest (7/26-7/28)

An annual tradition, this year’s SterlingFest promises more family fun events than ever before. There’s a Kidz Tent with plenty of performances and crafts available, a 5K, and plenty of great local music. Ribs and R&B Music Festival (8/10-8/11)

You know what helps getting through the dog days of summer? Ribs and R&B, both of which you can find at Hart Plaza’s Ribs and R&B Music Festival starting on Saturday, August 10. This year’s festivities will also feature plenty of gospel and jazz to mix things up.
