We are at the beginning stages of 2016, which means many New Year’s resolutions regard dieting, exercising and overall health. The gyms and fitness centers will be packed for about three or four weeks before life gets in the way and many people completely lose sight of their “New Year, new me” mindset. In all seriousness, there is no time like the present to get in shape. I have taken the liberty of listing off some local gyms and fitness centers offering a variety of classes, so that you can figure out what works best for you.

Arbor Fit Club

This Ann Arbor fitness club has strength and cardio equipment, as well as a variety of group exercise classes. From the Body Pump class, which is a 60-minute long workout challenging all of your major muscle groups, to cycling to Zumba, AFC offers plenty of variety. If you are looking for one-on-one training, the fit club offers personal training. It also has a shake bar onsite!

Body Language Fitness & Yoga Center

Body Language Fitness & Yoga Center is located in Commerce and offers a ton of options in terms of classes – more than 80 per week. Find this week’s schedule and the entire winter/spring schedule of classes online. Yoga (including many different styles), kickboxing, P90X, total body, weight training and many other courses are available here. There are also occasional $5 classes!

Kaizen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Kaizen BJJ, located in Plymouth, is more of a niche gym for those looking to train in martial arts, but it still offers a lot of variety. There are classes available for beginners all the way through advanced students. Kaizen offers Gi and No Gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes, as well as judoMuay Thai, and boxing classes. There are also specific programs for women and children.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

Studio Z Fitness

This Sterling Heights fitness studio offers diverse Zumba classes. It also offers Butts & Guts, MixxedFit, toning, kickboxing, yoga and other classes. Studio Z’s “Commit to Be Fit 2016” program starts this week, and prizes will be given to the two individuals who lose the most weight and inches. Your first class is free!

If a healthy start to 2016 is what you’re after, the aforementioned fitness centers are all great places to start. It is up to you to continue your fitness efforts, though. Happy New Year!
