The best time of the year is upon us and football is back! After a long offseason, the Lions prepare to open the regular season in September. But first, they must complete training camp and the preseason. The team’s first preseason game is this Thursday, Aug. 13.

Kickoff against the Jets is at 7:30 p.m. and it will be the Lions’ first contest since losing in the playoffs last season. If you’re a diehard football fanatic like me, there are some things you’ll want to know, such as where to watch and what to watch. We’ve got you covered.

Where to watch

Bookies Bar and Grille in Detroit is always a great option. With daily specials, a great food menu and plenty of TVs, what is not to love? If you’re attending Thursday’s game, or any games this season, Bookies also provides a complimentary shuttle!

Explore Metro Detroit in a vehicle built for discovery. Chevy Equinox combines sleek looks, maximum comfort and cutting edge entertainment to navigate your city in style.

Hamlin Corner in Royal Oak is a sophisticated sports bar with a locally-inspired menu. It will be playing the Lions game on its televisions while also broadcasting the game on the speakers.

The Hub Sports Bistro in Macomb offers 20 beers (including many Michigan craft brews) on tap and 24 high-definition televisions. The menu offers a wide variety of options as well. The bar also has pool tables and other games.

What to watch for

While the preseason is designed more for backup and third-string players to show what they can do, here are some things to keep an eye on:

  • Rookie performances
  • The play of the defense after losing a few key players
  • The play of the new-look offensive line

Tailgating

If you’re attending the game, here are some tailgating hotspots

We’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see all of the starters play in regular season action, but a preseason game will do for now. Football is here, ladies and gentlemen!
