Many of us played sports growing up and throughout high school, or even college. But now it seems the further our “glory days” get behind us, the less time and less energy we have to participate in athletic activities. It may seem like there aren’t many options for adult recreational leagues, but it is actually quite the contrary. There are many local multi-sport facilities for all ages.

High Velocity Sports, 46245 Michigan Ave., Canton, is a 110,000-square foot facility, plus it has a new dome connected to the building. HV offers flag football (you’ll catch me playing on Wednesdays), volleyballsoccerbasketball and more. Clinics and camps are also available. In addition, students and groups can participate in field trips and nightlong lock-ins.

Troy Sports Center, 1819 E. Big Beaver Rd., Troy, is an ice skating facility. It offers hockeydance and, of course, skating. Casual activities such as open skate or drop-in hockey are available. There are also more competitive options, with leagues for both adults and children. You can also rent the ice for your own event.

Joe Dumars Fieldhouse, 45300 Mound Rd., Shelby Twp., is another great option. The fieldhouse offers many sports for both adults and youth: basketballfloor hockeyroller hockey and more. There are also options for pickup games and leagues and camps and clinics. It is the mission of the fieldhouse to “make every athlete feel like a pro.” There is another location in Detroit as well.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

Taylor Sportsplex, 13333 Telegraph Rd., Taylor, provides ice and fieldhouse activities. Ice options include hockeyfigure skatingskating instruction and public skate. The fieldhouse allows for soccer and inline hockey. Soccer activities include adult and youth leagues, tournaments and instruction, while inline hockey offers an adult league.

The moral of the story is that there is likely an option for athletics somewhere near your town. Participating in sports or athletic activities is a good stress reliever and a great way to stay in shape. Whatever your sport of choice is, sign up and play it!
