This year’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix is approaching as fast as an IndyCar with festivities set to kick-off on Friday, May 31. The three day event at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park will feature NTT IndyCar Series races, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Trans Am Series races throughout the weekend.
With roots tracing back to Formula One races in 1982, the Grand Prix has become a staple in the Metro Detroit community. The Motor City knows how to host great races and this year’s event is no different as there will be exciting up-and-coming racers such as Josef Newgarden and Spencer Pigot.
Festivities begin on Friday, May 31 with gates opening at 7:30 a.m. for fans to view practices of the upcoming races. Qualifying races will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with the big races starting on Saturday morning and afternoon. You can find the full schedule here to plan what races and events you’d like to see.
There’s plenty of racing and loud engines on display at this year’s 30th Grand Prix in Detroit, but there are also plenty of other exciting events taking place. One of the main highlights includes a performance from Stone Temple Pilots on the Entertainment Stage on Sunday before the NTT IndyCar Series Race Chevrolet Dual in Detroit. Along with plenty of autograph session opportunities, this will also be the first year that all fans have access to the James Scott Memorial Fountain and the opportunity to join the winner circle after each race.
