We love highlighting all of the unique local businesses in Metro Detroit, whether it’s because of the products they sell or their roles in the community. Many of those roles have changed in the last few weeks and numerous local businesses have stepped up in major ways. Here are just a few examples of how local businesses are helping Metro Detroit battle the Coronavirus pandemic.
Blake’s Hard Cider
Armada-based Blake’s Hard Cider is stepping up by producing hand sanitizer to meet the increased demand and need. The family-owned and operated craft cidery has outfitted its cannery operations to manufacture and package liquid hand sanitizer that meets WHO standards. The hand sanitizer will be available for bulk order distribution for $30 per gallon, while an 8-oz spray bottle will be sold at Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill for $6.99 and will be offered free to first responders.
Carl’s Golfland
Golf retail giant, Carl’s Golfland, has launched a campaign in order to help #ShankThisVirus. You can purchase a shirt with that hashtag on it and you’ll be helping local hospitals and organizations on the frontline of the pandemic. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales support Henry Ford Health System, Hurley Medical Center, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Say Detroit Health Clinic, and the American Red Cross. Signarama in Troy is switching gears from creating signs for local businesses to making plastic face shields for hospital workers. The company has completely retooled all of their sign equipment to produce more than 16,000 face shields for hospitals and first responders. The company is also still open for essential businesses, which you find more information about on their Facebook page. Majestic Beds has repurposed one of their plants to develop face masks and shields for those who need them most. You can order an FNM face shield and mask kit online for $14.99 and for every kit they sell, Majestic Beds will donate the same to local first responders and organizations that need them. The Detroit Free Press and your Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are teaming up to help local restaurants persevere during these troubling times while also feeding local Healthcare Heroes. Money raised through this event will provide restaurants with the help they need while also providing 1,250 healthy meals a week to hospital workers.
