Drive-In Theaters Making a Comeback in Metro Detroit

Catching up with the latest movies at home has never been easier, but if you want a night out at the movies with family and friends, the drive-in experience is the way to go. Not only is it a great way to see the latest movies and enjoy the Michigan summer, but the perfect way of getting out while also practicing safe social distancing. So if you’re itching for a night out, here are five great local drive-in theaters!

Canterbury Village

Lake Orion’s Canterbury Village is known for its ‘Always Christmas’ displays, but this summer it will also be home to drive-in movies on the weekends. Large LED screens will be showing movies Friday night, and then throughout the whole day on Saturdays and Sundays. You must purchase tickets for each movie before arriving, so be sure to check out this weekend’s schedule on the event’s website.

Freedom Hill County Park

Freedom Hill is normally home to numerous concerts throughout the summer, but this year it will feature some of the biggest movies of the last few years as part of its Macomb County Drive-In Movies series. This weekend’s offerings include “Toy Story 4,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Cars 3,” “Frozen II” and much more. Be sure to visit the drive-in’s website for ticketing information.

USA Hockey Arena

The Summer Drive-In returns to USA Hockey Arena with recent hits being shown throughout the week. Your family can enjoy movies like “Jumanji: The Next Level,” “Trolls World Tour,” and “Onward,” while adults can enjoy films like “The Invisible Man” and “Bad Boys For Life.” Movie schedules are posted every week on their website along with ticketing information.

Ford-Wyoming Drive-In

Dearborn’s Ford-Wyoming Drive-In has been one of the last traditional drive-ins in Metro Detroit, and they’re back this summer with screenings every night.You’ll find recent hits like “Sonic the Hedgehog” or “Bad Boys for Life,” along with new releases such as “Becky” and “The Wretched.” The theater will also be showing the live Garth Brooks concert on June 27, and you can find tickets here.

US 23 Drive-In Theater

Get ready for family-friendly hits along with recent horror favorites at the US 23 Drive-In Theater. The theater has updated guidelines that you can find on their Facebook page, including carryout only at the concession stand. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. with movies starting around 9:30 p.m.
