Deep dish. Round. Square. Wood stove. Veggie. Topped with pineapple. However you like your pizza, you can find your slice of heaven at this year’s Pizza Throwdown.
Returning to Eastern Market on Thursday, August 15, Pizza Throwdown will feature 10 local pizzerias combining to offer 60 different types of pizza pies. For $15 attendees will enjoy one complimentary drink ticket and one slice of pizza from any vendor. Additional slices will be available for purchase with prices set by the vendors.
This year’s lineup will include pizzas from Detroit Style Pizza Company, Brass Rail Pizza Bar, Novella’s Pizza and many more. Beautifully You Jewels and Beyond Juicery + Eatery will also be on hand to give you a break in between pizza slices.
Scott Rutterbush, one of the event’s producers, is also the producer of other food events such as Burger Battle and Taco Showdown. He knows how big of a food community Metro Detroit is and he is excited to keep spotlighting the best cooks and chefs in the area.

“This year is going to be a great mix of phenomenal pizzerias that have been around for a while with a lot of exciting new places. You won’t want to miss it,” Rutterbush said.
The Pizza Throwdown will also be a part of Eastern Market’s Thursday Night Market series. Throughout the summer on the third Thursday of each month, the market fills the sheds with unique shopping, food, drink, and music experiences that will stay open until 10 p.m.
“You can try a lot of different styles of pizza and with it being part of Eastern Market’s Thursday Night Market event, you can see the market in a new light,” Rutterbush said.
