Detroit Cocktail Classic

Detroit loves its cocktails. From local dives to world-renowned speakeasies, the city has gained repute as one of the nation’s most creative, passionate drinking cities. Maybe it is due to our surplus of locally produced, top-shelf distilled spirits. Maybe it’s thanks to the bartenders themselves  – or rather, mixologists – who dedicate their careers to the mastery of unique flavor profiles and artful presentation – and look so good while they do it.

The reasons are numerous. And you can see them play out before your eyes at this year’s Detroit Cocktail Classic.

The annual event will take place Friday, October 1 in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market. It’s a celebration of the city’s vibrant hospitality industry, but even more so, a toast to the institutions that elevate the scene to new heights.

A GA ticket ($50) will afford the opportunity to sample ten signature libations. A VIP ticket ($85) will get you another five drinks, plus early admission and an assortment of light appetizers.

Normally, the Cocktail Classic would feature a competitive twist with voting in categories like Best in Show, Best-Dressed Bartender, and even Best Cocktail Name, but this time around – in wake of the industry’s most challenging year ever – it’s all about camaraderie.

“This time we just want it to be a fun party,” said Cocktail Classic founder, Travis Fourmont. “With competitions and voting there’s competitiveness… we wanted to squash all of that. We just want everyone to be excited about being there and seeing everyone out and healthy.

This year’s event will feature individual bars, restaurants, and brands, along with some of the city’s most prominent restaurant groups, including 1301 Hospitality (The Skip, Deluxe Flux, Standby), Heirloom Hospitality (Townhouse, Prime & Proper, Cash Only), and Four Man Ladder (Grey Ghost, Second Best, unnamed Stadium District development). The diverse roster of participants represents the incredible variety that exists within Detroit’s food and beverage industry.

But it’s not just the local industry that will reap the benefits of the Cocktail Classic. Net proceeds from the event will go to O.A.T.S. (Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles), an organization dedicated to promoting the health, well-being and happiness of individuals with disabilities through horseback riding and equine therapy activities.
