The Metro Detroit area is a hub for breakfast greats, and if you’re in the mood for something comforting, versatile, and deliciously familiar, you can’t go wrong with French toast. As good as homemade can be, these must-try spots have taken the brunch favorite to new heights, whether it be stuffed, has a crazy amount of toppings, interesting flavor profiles, or all of the above.

JAGGED FORK

Multiple locations in Metro Detroit

Jagged Fork is known for its extensive menu, but its French toast options are a standout. Here, you can indulge in classic French toast made with challah bread or get a little fancy with the Very Berry or S’more French toast. The Very Berry is stuffed with housemade banana cream cheese and piled high with fresh berries before being drizzled with a berry compote. The S’mores version is a challah French toast with a graham cracker crust, stuffed with Nutella and marshmallows, and then topped with even more Nutella, marshmallows, and housemade cream cheese frosting, with chocolate syrup drizzled over top. The cozy ambiance complements the mouth-watering dishes, naturally making it a Metro Detroit favorite.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

THE CRACKED EGG OF GROSSE POINTE

15506 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe

19101 Vernier Road, Harper Woods

The Cracked Egg of Grosse Pointe (and of Harper Woods) offers a charming atmosphere alongside its menu of classic breakfast items. Its French toast comes in a variety of options, from Fruity Pebble to PB & Jelly Time. My personal favorite? The Almond Crunch French toast. It’s stuffed with blintz filling, bananas, blueberries, almonds, and caramel sauce, and is my go-to order. This restaurant provides an ideal spot for a casual brunch or a family breakfast.

LE ANDOS CAFE

15433 Hall Road, Macomb

If you’re looking for a place that offers French toast with a gourmet twist, then Le Andos Cafe is the spot for you. Here, French toast isn’t just a breakfast item; it’s an experience. You can of course order the classic French toast, which is sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon. If you’re looking to take it to the next level, check out the Caramel Apple, Banana Pudding, or Red Velvet French toast. The caramel apple is stuffed with sweet cream cheese, warm apple filling, and pecans, and then topped with caramel and powdered sugar. The banana pudding naturally has banana pudding filling, fresh bananas, and graham crackers. And the red velvet? A complete game-changer. It is made from three slices of red velvet cake that is topped with cream cheese, before being turned into French toast and topped with melba sauce and powdered sugar.

ROCHESTER BRUNCH HOUSE

301 Walnut Boulevard, Rochester

The Rochester Brunch House brings an elegant touch to the classic breakfast fare. On the menu, you’ll find two French toast options: Fruit Mascarpone Stuffed and Banana Peanut Butter Stuffed. The fruit mascarpone comes in three versions, with your choice of banana, strawberry, or blueberry. You can add additional toppings to your dish from a list that includes Nutella, chocolate chips, Oreos, walnuts, and more. The sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect choice for those looking to elevate their morning meal, and the brunch cocktails are a great addition.

AVENUE BRUNCH HOUSE

22075 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn

At Avenue Brunch House, the focus is on quality ingredients and excellent cooking techniques. Its French toast is no exception, and the Captain Crunch and Sin-a-mon are stand-outs. The Captain Crunch option is deep friend Captain Crunch breaded Texas toast and is topped with vanilla ice cream and berry coulis. Sin-a-mon features streusel, cinnamon sugar, sweet cream cheese, cinnamon butter, and powdered sugar. The inviting interior and friendly service make it a must-visit for anyone in the Metro Detroit area.

On the wilder side, try the Banana Split, with bananas, strawberries, vanilla buttercream, berry compote, and pecans, all drizzled with chocolate, raspberry, and vanilla sauces for the ultimate Banana Split experience. There is also the Double Trouble option, with cookie dough, Oreos, Nutella, and chocolate sauce.

THE HUDSON CAFE
