Warm weather in Metro Detroit calls for a refreshing glass of lemonade, and local cafes and eateries are stepping up their game with unique and delicious variations of this classic drink. Perfect to pair with a light brunch, a sandwich for lunch, or as a cocktail, lemonade is a fan favorite. Here are some top spots to quench your thirst and enjoy delightful twists on lemonade…

DIME STORE

719 Griswold Street, #180, Detroit

Dime Store is a go-to brunch spot for many with a variety of inventive dishes to choose from. The housemade lemonade is an excellent choice, as is the Lafayette Lemonade. This cocktail takes fresh lemonade and mint and pairs it with vodka for a light and refreshing drink. It’s perfect to pair with one of the eclectic brunch offerings. Owner/Operator Ann-Marie Murphy shares, “While our menu has a variety of options to choose from, we’re known for our more creative dishes like the Duck Bop Hash (breakfast potatoes tossed with house-confit duck leg, Korean barbecue sauce, spinach, and onion, and topped with over easy eggs, house-pickled veggies, and Sriracha) and the Cheesesteak Benny (shaved ribeye, onion, crimini mushroom and American cheese topped with poached eggs and housemade hollandaise on an English muffin). To complement a menu made nearly entirely in-house, we offer a full bar with craft beer, wine, and classic cocktails. Guest favorites include our Bloody Mary, Peach Mimosa, and Orange Creamsicle, made with Detroit’s own Faygo Orange Pop.”

COMMONWEALTH CAFÉ

300 Hamilton Row, Birmingham

Commonwealth Café is a beloved local spot known for its cozy atmosphere and artisanal meals. You can find classic lemonade, along with seasonal additions like guava, matcha, lavender, or vanilla syrups. These are the perfect balance of tart and sweet, making it a refreshing choice on a hot day. Pair it with one of their delectable dishes, like chorizo hash, Mediterranean quiche, blueberry pancakes, or Tandoori chicken salad. Check out the airy cafe or comfortable patio space for your next trip to Commonwealth Café.

DETROIT BUBBLE TEA

22821 Woodward Avenue, Ferndale

For a fun and fruity twist, head to Detroit Bubble Tea in Ferndale. Known for its wide variety of bubble tea flavors, it also offers a delicious lemonade option. You can customize your lemonade with different fruit flavors like pineapple, mango, passion fruit, or lychee, and add tapioca, jellies, and popping pearls for an extra burst of fun. It’s a unique and refreshing drink that’s perfect for adventurous palates. For something a bit more soothing, the Medicine Ball beverage is an excellent choice made of a combination of lemonade with green mint and peach teas.

EOS CAFÉ

30625 Jefferson Avenue, St. Clair Shores

EOS Café and Coffee House offers a vibrant selection of beverages, with their lemonade being a customer favorite. With a variety of flavors to choose from, the lemonade flight is very popular. Choose four flavors to sample, ranging from blueberry, strawberry, and island fruit to coconut, pear, and lavender. These are refreshing and oh-so-good, especially when the day’s heat is settling in. Pair any of the lemonades with a bakery treat, breakfast sandwich (served all day), a fresh house salad, or a specialty sandwich.

ATOMIC COFFEE

401 South Main Street, Royal Oak

Atomic Coffee is a great spot to grab a cup of coffee, but its other beverages stand out as well, including the lemonade. It’s made with freshly squeezed lemons and simple syrup and can be served iced or frozen. Choose to infuse it with lavender or triple berry flavors to give it a fun twist, or order the Arnold Palmer. This combines Orange Pekoe iced tea with lemonade, for a wonderful balance of flavor. Pair any of these with a breakfast sandwich, burrito, or bagel.
