The Caesar salad has always been adaptable, just as comfortable beside a pizza as it is at the center of a composed dinner plate. Around Metro Detroit, restaurants are giving the classic salad more personality through grilled greens, citrus, fried chicken, crunchy breadcrumbs, and formats that stretch well beyond the salad bowl.

Townhouse Detroit

500 Woodward Avenue, Detroit

Townhouse Detroit brings smoke and texture to the Caesar with its grilled version. The Townhouse team shares, “Townhouse Detroit is driven by a relentless pursuit of hospitality and a passion for creating unforgettable experiences. We welcome every guest with genuine warmth, exceptional service, and a vibrant atmosphere paired with bold, globally inspired cuisine. From intimate dinners to life’s biggest celebrations, we’re where Detroit comes together to gather, connect, and celebrate. Our Grilled Caesar is a signature dish that reimagines the classic. It features Grilled Baby Gem lettuce, which adds a smoky depth, paired with Pangrattato (crispy breadcrumbs), savory anchovies, and rich Parmesan, all brought together with our house-made Caesar dressing. With simplicity in the dish, and complexity in the flavor, it continues to be the most ordered and enjoyed salad in our offerings.” The grilled lettuce gives the salad a warm, slightly charred edge, while the anchovy and parmesan keep it grounded in the flavors people expect from a Caesar. It can sit easily among the restaurant’s broader range of menu options, from the Buttermilk Cornbread for brunch, shareable lunch plates, and curated cocktails to more celebratory entrees for dinner.

Papa’s Pizza & BBQ

Multiple locations in Metro Detroit

Silverado by lighthouse

Discover new horizons with the confidence of the Chevy Silverado, from busy streets to scenic views.

Papa’s Pizza & BBQ has recently elevated the Caesar into pizza-night territory with a Caesar Salad Pizza topped with the signature dressing, grated parmesan, grilled chicken, lettuce, and mozzarella at two of its locations (Clinton Township & West Bloomfield). It keeps the familiar cool crunch and savory dressing of the salad, then builds it onto a pizza crust for something more filling and fun. Pair it with another pizza, like the Chicken Parmesan, Hummus, A1 Philly Steak, or a classic pepperoni. Don’t forget the cheesy bread, wing dings, or rib tips for a full experience.

Stacks & Cordials

Multiple locations in Metro Detroit

Stacks & Cordials gives the Caesar several spots to land across its menu, including the Chicken Caesar Stack, Chicken Caesar Cordial, wrap, and salad. The Stack sandwiches are built on pizza dough, while the Cordials are made between cheese bread. Owner Marcus Karana attributes its approach to freshness and family legacy: “Here at Stacks & Cordials, we focus on continuing the legacy created by my father and uncle over at The Cordial Shoppe and Stacks Liquor and Deli. Their focus has always been fresh from start to finish. We are mostly known for our hot sandwiches, but our passion doesn’t stop there. In terms of our Caesar Salad, we prepare everything in-house. It is made to order every time! I can promise you our croutons are some of the best you have ever had.” The Crispy Chicken Caesar Cordial, for example, stacks cheesy bread, crispy chicken, fresh romaine, homemade croutons, and dressing, with options to feed large groups. Other deli favorites include the Chicken Bacon Ranch and Po-boy Stacks, or the Italian or Turkey Club Cordials. Round it all out with a side of chicken bites, Brussels sprouts, or bread sticks.

Morelia’s Italian Fried Chicken

23420 Woodward Avenue, Ferndale

Morelia’s Italian Fried Chicken is known for its crispy Italian Fried Chicken cutlets that appear across its menu. At Morelia’s, the Caesar salad turns into a full meal with the M.I.F.C. Caesar salad, serving their Italian fried chicken over romaine lettuce and shaved parmesan reggaino, with housemade dressing and croutons. The fried chicken adds warmth and substance, while the romaine and dressing keep the dish fresh enough to balance the richer side of the plate. Amazing sides to consider include the Zucchini Fritters, Baked Ziti, and Mascarpone Polenta. Don’t forget to order dessert either, with choices of the rich Tiramisu Icebox Cake or fresh Zeppoles tossed in powdered sugar.

Selden Standard

3921 2nd Ave, Detroit

Selden Standard‘s Kale Caesar reflects the restaurant’s seasonal, ingredient-focused style with crispy chicken skin, Meyer lemon, and parmesan. Kale gives the salad structure, while the chicken skin brings a salty crunch and the Meyer lemon adds a softer citrus vibe to the dressing’s richness. It pairs naturally with a dinner that could include roasted vegetables, ranging from asparagus to sweet potatoes, alongside seafood, fresh salads, and other shareable plates. Here, the Caesar salad plays a more composed role without straying too far from its classic roots.

Pop’s for Italian

280 West Nine Mile Road, Ferndale

Pop’s for Italian folds the Caesar into weekend brunch with a Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap made with a spinach basil tortilla, romaine, parmesan cheese, garlic croutons, and dressing. The wrap brings the salad into a casual handheld format that still leans on the garlic, cheese, and crunch that define the dish. Guests can also order the Caesar salad on its own during lunch or dinner, or choose to pair it with one of their wood-fired pizzas, pasta specialties like the Red Wine Braised Short Rib or Lobster Ravioli, or with a variety of appetizers, which range from Crispy Fried Mozzarella to Beet & Honey Ricotta Bruschetta.

These Metro Detroit kitchens show how much room there still is to reinterpret a familiar salad. Whether it is layered onto pizza, tucked into a wrap, or grilled over heat, the Caesar continues to work because its foundation is simple: greens, dressing, parmesan, and crunch, with enough flexibility for each restaurant to make it its own.
