While Detroit’s beloved Movement Festival is canceled due to COVID-19, the Detroit Historical Society will proceed with the closing celebration of their exhibit, 2000/2020: Celebrating 20 Years of the Electronic Music Festival in Detroit. On May 30, enjoy live, socially distanced performances from the city’s favorite DJs while you immerse yourself in the history of a genre that was born right here in the D.
With a new, elongated route, this legendary Memorial Day parade now offers additional space to celebrate America’s heroes. This year’s parade will pay special tribute to the nine Michiganders who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm 30 years ago. The parade begins at the military museum (16600 Stephens Dr.) and ends at Spindler Park.

Nothing compares to a Michigan summer in Frankenmuth. . This Memorial Day Weekend, the town known best for its German influence and fried chicken will host two exciting, family-friendly events.
Balloons Over Bavarian Inn provides the opportunity to watch 25+ hot air balloons take flight overhead. Each day will include morning and evening flights, along with a nightglow experience that illuminates the night sky. If you happen to live within ten miles of the Bavarian Inn, you can place a large white sheet on your property, indicating to the balloon pilots that they have permission to land right on your front lawn!
While Balloons fill the sky, be sure to check out the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl – the world’s largest Olympic-style dog festival. The two-day event will feature dock and disc competitions, sheep herding demonstrations, wiener dog races and a pet costume parade. Shop at the pet-themed vendor marketplace, sign your dog up for doggie races and explore more than 40 shops and attractions located at the River Place Shops.
In celebration of Sampled Detroit’s 19th anniversary, a local dancing hotspot, Marble Bar, will host a limited-capacity live performance from Mark Farina X Chuck Daniels, Rick Wilhite X Dez Andrés and more! Booths and high-top seating are available but act fast, as tickets are selling quickly. Masks are required and temperature checks will be administered upon entry.
