A lot of people will be masquerading as their favorite monsters this Halloween, but there’s one Metro Detroit tradition that allows bands to masquerade as their favorite acts: The Crofoot’s Creepy Cheapy.
Returning for its 12th year, the Creepy Cheapy takes over the Crofoot on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. Although this is the 12th annual Creepy Cheapy, this is the first time that the event has spanned over two nights. More acts than ever before will perform across three stages throughout the Crofoot, with DJ sets from DJ Chaddy Daddy and Erno & Friends.
All of the local bands will perform covers and attempt to capture the spirit of some of the most iconic artists of all-time. This year’s stacked lineup includes the likes of Ladysse as Katy Perry, The Fruits as Madonna, Young Pioneer as Taylor Swift, Signature Mistakes as Fall Out Boy, Vena Morris & Seaholm as My Chemical Romance and much more. Chad Nicefield, a talent buyer for The Crofoot Presents, said that the Creepy Cheapy has a unique atmosphere that both the performers and audience will enjoy. “It’s a magical night for bands because they get to pay tribute to their heroes and they put an unbelievable amount of energy behind it,” Nicefield said. “You can feel it in the room and it just creates a great vibe.” Photo Credit: Jake Mulka Nicefield added that one of the goals of the event is to curate a bill that speaks to the current state of what’s happening in music. They want to be as inclusive as possible and that’s why you’ll hear music from Lizzo, The Who, Daft Punk, Queen and practically everything in between. Bands aren’t the only ones who are encouraged to come dressed up, as the Creepy Cheapy wants attendees to come in their most unique and inventive costumes. Whether it’s Edward Scissorhands, Robocop, or Frankenstein’s monster, all are welcome to rock the night away in costume. The Halloween tradition has become a local favorite over the years as attendees get to see up-and-coming local artists put their spin on big time acts. “The Metro Detroit music scene is always pushing boundaries and showing what is possible in music. This event showcases just that because every band always brings their ‘A’ game,” Nicefield said. Two nights, three stages, and 28 performances make for one unforgettable event this weekend at The Crofoot.
