Charcuterie boards blend visual artistry with culinary delight for all occasions. The curated mix of cheeses, meats, and accompaniments transforms a meal into a communal celebration. Whether you’re indulging in a fine dining experience or building a board for your next gathering, these Metro Detroit businesses offer extraordinary takes on this beloved culinary trend…

ALPINO

1426 Bagley Street, Detroit

At Alpino, owner and operator David Richter takes diners on a regional journey through the Alps. Their signature Charcuterie Board highlights the unique flavors of the Alpine area, paired with Gherkins pickles and various mustards. Sourcing cheeses and meats directly from the Alpine hillsides, Alpino emphasizes authentic, generational recipes. “Every country, from Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, and beyond, delivers its own provisions through unique spice blends and proprietary aging processes, making our charcuterie board a rounded tour of the regions our brand represents,” says Richter. This board is excellent to share, along with the Mountain Cheeses option or the fondue served with potatoes, apples, and bread.

Selections for cheese, charcuterie, and snacks range from regions in Spain and Portugal to local favorites, like pimento spread from Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, beef salami from Marrow in Detroit, and bread and olive oil from Cannelle. Regardless of your sweet and salty pairings, guests can expect a harmonious balance of flavors and textures, ideal for sharing over a glass of wine in this cozy yet upscale environment.

MONGERS’ PROVISIONS

3127 12 Mile Road, Berkeley

Mongers’ Provisions is a hub for all of your charcuterie needs. This shop specializes in cheese, charcuterie, and chocolates, which can all be key components of an excellent charcuterie board. Co-owner Zach Berg shares, “Mongers’ Provisions was built to be a hub for charcuterie board building. We have been building boards since day one but we also wanted to be a destination for those who enjoy building their own. We now offer boards in a variety of sizes and our boards are also available at the Fisher Theater which we are very proud of. On occasion, we even gather people together for board-building workshops. Whatever your board needs, we hope we can help elevate your table!” Board sizes range from serving 4-8 (Petite Provisions) to The Big Boy for entertaining over 50 people, with a range of cheeses, meat, crackers, dried fruit, pickled veggies, nuts, and chocolate for sweet and savory pairings. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to build your own board, Mongers’ Provisions can be a one-stop-shop for you.

WRIGHT & COMPANY

1500 Woodward Avenue, Floor 2, Detroit

For a sophisticated yet approachable take on a snack board, Wright & Company excels. Their Artisanal Cheese Boards feature an elegant mix of classic cheeses, rotating accompaniments, and olive oil flatbread. Available on the regular menu as well as the late-night-edition, this board is great for snacking or sharing, along with the Crispy Chickpeas, Pork Belly Sliders, or Michigan Mushroom Pate with toasted sourdough and a red wine and cherry jam. The attention to detail and high-quality ingredients make this a standout option in Detroit’s restaurant scene.

THE MIXING BOARD

2645 Woodward Avenue, Detroit

The Mixing Board is a favorite inside Little Caesar’s Arena that aims to highlight local ingredients and flavors in innovative ways. Chef Jonathan Torok shares, “The goal is a balanced experience that allows our guests to begin with the traditional flavors associated with charcuterie, such as prosciutto, Fra’Mani mortadella, and creamy double brie, before moving into more adventurous tastes with our house-made pork and cranberry terrine. Seasoned with Shiraz and fresh herbs, the terrine’s rich and robust flavors meld perfectly with our locally sourced spreads and produce.” Meant to be shared for two to three, this board is set for sampling and savoring different combinations of Michigan flavors with a twist.
