Welcome to the exhilarating world of competitive food challenges! These gastronomic contests aren’t just a battle against the clock or an opponent, but also a battle of willpower, strategy, and perhaps most importantly—stomach capacity. We’ve all seen famous eating contests like Nathan’s Hot Dogs or any number of challenges on “Man vs. Food,” but what is it like to participate in one of these feats? There are several Metro Detroit restaurants calling on the public to accept their food challenges. These are the best of the best in the area…

TIPSY MCSTAGGERS TIPSY TOWER CHALLENGE AND WING CONTEST

7280 East 12 Mile Road, Warren

If you love big burgers you’ll want to give the Tipsy Tower Challenge a shot. It’s a five-pound burger, a pound of french fries, cole slaw, and two pickle spears for $30. If you can finish everything in 20 minutes, you’ll get your meal for free, a t-shirt, and your picture on the wall of fame. If burgers aren’t your thing, try their Tipsy Wing Challenge, consisting of 50 wings in 15 minutes instead.

EAT MY TREATS BIG BOX CHALLENGE

18618 Eureka Road, Southgate

The Big Box Challenge at Eat My Treats in Southgate is a potato lover’s dream. Served in a cardboard box, the challenge is set to eat 8 pounds of fries topped with nacho cheese, four kinds of meats, and four toppings of your choice in one hour or less. Winners get a free meal, cold hard cash, and a place on their Wall of Fame. This challenge is not for the faint of heart as failing to complete the challenge means you have to pay for your Big Box and your name gets placed on the Wall of Shame. If you aren’t looking for the challenge but still want to try a Big Box, Owner Steven Roark tells us that it can typically “feed 4-6 people for under $50.”
