Brunch enthusiasts know that Metro Detroit has a plethora of options for their favorite weekend pastime. While some have tried and true spots for their brunches, others like to try somewhere new with a curated brunch menu on the regular. From contemporary cafes and cozy bistros to new hotspots, here’s a curated list of standout brunch offerings, featuring unique flavors and inviting atmospheres.

2442 Michigan Avenue, Detroit

Supergeil is an Eastern European and Mediterranean-inspired cafe with a laid-back vibe with fresh seasonal ingredients and scratch cooking. Leaning toward more savory brunch offerings, you can still find Moroccan beignets, cinnamon date rolls, and strawberry rhubarb granola for those with a sweet tooth. The chorizo shrimp and polenta eggs Benedict and Simit and lox stand out, as do the döner kabobs with garlic sauce. As for brunch cocktails, you can find a house bloody with horseradish-infused gin, along with breakfast martinis and mimosas. The eclectic menu and lively atmosphere make it a prime Sunday spot to catch up with friends while sampling distinctive dishes and drinks.

The weekend brunch items rotate seasonally, ensuring a fresh take on your favorite dishes. Some current features include a corn-flake-crusted French Toast made with a crispy fried brioche, fresh berries, and pure maple syrup, a smoked salmon pinsa, and a vegetable hash. Brunch cocktails that stand out are Passion in Paradise (Two James Coffee Liqueur, Bumbu XO rum, and coconut syrup) and Black Snake Moan (Villon cognac, lemon, orange, and sparkling wine).

Jay Jay’s Bistro is one of my new favorite spots that stands out with its elevated take on Mediterranean, American, and Italian cuisine. According to owner John Hermiz, “Jay Jay’s is a Mediterranean flare bistro [that] has an upbeat atmosphere with a newly renovated interior that really makes it a place to hang out with friends.” Their menu is a diverse treasure trove featuring breakfast favorites like homemade crepes and unique offerings like shawarma quesadillas and Kobe truffle sliders. With a full bar serving handcrafted cocktails and a full breakfast menu served daily, Jay Jay’s is the perfect place for a leisurely brunch or catching the game on one of their many TVs. The cheesecake French toast is a delicious combination of fresh fruit and cheesecake frosting, and the skillets are oh-so-filling. Pair it with a refreshing mocktail or curated beverage and enjoy brunch in the sunroom for an excellent brunch experience.
