When you think of sweet treats what comes to mind first? Is it cookies fresh from the oven, a slice of cake covered in frosting, or maybe a scoop of ice cream? Depending on the day it could change from one item to the next. Metro Detroit has no shortage of businesses creating perfectly delicious treats from cookies to pies, cakes to ice cream. The next time you’re craving something perfectly sweet, check out one of these local places to get some of the best sweets and treats in the Detroit area.

Detroit Cookie Company was founded in 2015 and they’ve been cranking out delicious cookies ever since. Their flavors rotate often so you’re sure to see something new each time you stop in. “We are a gourmet bakery and coffee shop that specializes in cookies! We offer 25+ different cookie options every single day! We release three new flavors each month so there is always something new to try. Not only do we have cookies but we also have brownies, blondies, ice cream, and our famous cinnamon rolls (only offered on the weekends!),” says Lauren Roumayah, owner of Detroit Cookie Company. Perhaps the most notable cookies are the 8 Mile Mix with M&M’s, pretzels, and Reese’s, the PB Volcano which is volcano-shaped and filled to the brim with peanut butter, and their XL Cookies that are about as big as your face.

FOR THE LOVE OF SUGAR

For the Love of Sugar is one of the must-try bakeries right downtown. Manal Hussein, owner, says, “We are a bakery cafe offering cakes by the slice, macarons, frozen custard, cookies, brownies, lattes, coffees, and other non-caffeinated drinks! We offer vegan and gluten-free options as well!” Be sure to check out their custom cakes for all occasions too!

SISTER PIE

8066 Kercheval Ave, Detroit

Sister Pie serves up pies, cookies, breakfast, and lunch each day. They aim to use nontraditional flavor combinations while sticking to rustic baking techniques and honoring the local agriculture of Michigan. Their menu is always changing with the seasons so you might only get to have something once or twice before it’s gone. 

TREAT DREAMS

Multiple locations in Metro Detroit

Treat Dreams is an artisanal ice cream shop that offers unique flavors like Cereal Killer, Honey Lavender, and Bumpy Cake. Since opening in 2010, they have created over 1,200 unique ice cream flavors and have become known as one of the most unique ice cream shops in the Midwest. The shop also serves vegan ice cream, made with coconut milk or almond milk. 

LE DETROIT MACARON

2756 Evaline Street, Hamtramck

Le Detroit Macaron uses the traditional, French method for creating their delicious macarons. They have 12 signature flavors including Hazelnut, Lavender, and Oreo Cheesecake. They also have rotating specials that have been incredibly popular. Le Detroit Macaron also makes personalized macarons and gift packages for special occasions.
